Collective agreement wages in the security industry

What is the standard wage in the security industry? Due to differences in standard wages between federal states, there are significant variations in earnings in the security industry. As a rule of thumb, full-time employees without special training can earn between €2,300 and €4,600 gross per month. These variations are mainly due to regional differences in standard wages.

In the security industry, holidays are paid, with the holiday pay supplement varying depending on the collective agreement and federal state. The minimum supplement is usually 50% of the regular hourly wage, while the maximum supplement, depending on the specific collective agreements, can be up to 100% or more.

Wages in the security industry are set by collective bargaining partners, which usually consist of employers’ associations and trade unions. In Germany, this is often the Association of Employers’ Associations for the Security Industry (BDSW) in cooperation with the relevant trade union, such as ver.di (United Services Union). These organizations conduct collective bargaining negotiations and agree on collective agreements that regulate wages and working conditions in the security industry.

In the security industry, the highest earning potential usually depends on several factors, including qualifications, professional experience, area of responsibility, and location. Higher-level positions such as security managers, security consultants, or protection and security specialists, often with additional certifications or degrees, tend to command higher salaries. Specialized roles, such as working in high-risk areas or senior positions in security planning and analysis, also typically offer higher earning potential.

Employees in the security industry with a qualification in accordance with §34a can expect a gross monthly income of between €2,496 (at an hourly wage of €13) and €2,592 (at an hourly wage of €13.50) if they receive the minimum wage under the collective agreement. This calculation is based on a working time of 192 hours per month. This reflects the range of income resulting from the minimum wage in this sector.

In the security industry, employees receive various bonuses for special working hours in addition to their basic salary. These include the night shift bonus, which is paid for work during night hours, usually between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. There is also a public holiday allowance, which is paid for work on public holidays and is often significantly higher than the regular wage. In addition, a Sunday allowance is paid for work on Sundays. The exact conditions and amounts of these allowances vary depending on the collective agreement and federal state.
